LIBRARY

Book Week 2025

A big thank you to everyone! What a wonderful week of activities and looking forward to an even more spectacular Book Week parade today!

We’ve had some great reading sessions for students during the week so far. We had Mr Barber read ‘The Wobbly Bike’ on Monday and he even dressed and brought props, it was a great turn out.  Yesterday we had Abbey Ellis from the Townsville Fire visit and read ‘These long-loved Things’. Tomorrow we welcome our local member of Hinchinbrook Nick Dametto and our Information and Resources Advisor for Townsville Catholic Education, Julianne Cervellin.

Our annual Book Week Parade is on today Friday 12th September. The parade will begin at 8.40am in the MPH, we look forward to seeing you all there. As in previous years we invite students to bring along a gold coin donation for the parade with all monies being given to the ‘Indigenous Literacy Foundation’. Each child who dresses up for the parade will also get a ticket. There will then be a draw for each year level and children will have the chance to win a CBCA shortlisted book.

The amazing staff in our school have decorated the library again this year for the annual Book Week display competition. The Library looks amazing and there are some very colourful displays. Voting began on Monday 8th September and will continue until tomorrow afternoon Friday 12th September. If you would like to vote, feel free to pop into the library when it is open to cast your vote.

Mrs Rafferty has been hiding 10 Where’s Wallys around the school during Book Week to be found by students. If they did happen to find one they brought them to the library for a sweet prize. It has been an exciting time around the school.

There have been activities in the library during lunch breaks this week. It has been great to see some book focus craft in the library.

A Book Week colouring competition is running at the moment. Students can collect their entry at the library and drop it back when completed with their name and class on the back. There will be one winner from P-3 and one winner from 4-6. Entries close Friday 12th September 2.45pm and announced Monday 15th September!

Readers Cup Team

Our Readers Cup team had an amazing time at the Readers Cup State Finals last week in Brisbane! Our incredible team competed against the top reading teams from across the state and placed 15th overall. We are so proud of all their hard work and dedication!

It was a huge day, and the students absolutely loved the experience, especially getting to meet and chat with author Carla Fitzgerald. What a fantastic achievement for our team!

Story Box Library - Mrs Dollisson’s Favourite

My favourite books on Storybox Library at the moment are the wonderful shortlisted books for CBCA Book Week 2025.

Where do they go, these long-loved things? These stories told, these songs we sing?  Once a memory is made, it remains. Even when it is forgotten.

From author Josh Pyke and illustrator Ronojoy Ghosh comes this moving story of love, loss and the power of shared memories.

Listen to Kon Karapanagiotidis read ‘These Long-Loved Things’ on Story Box Hub today.
