Barrier Reef Clean Up

During the month of October Reef Clean promotes schools and organisations to conduct a clean up of their local area prior to the wet season. As a Franciscan school it is our calling to care for our world and all of creation. So we have registered to clean up a part of our local area on Friday 10 October at 8am. If you are interested in getting involved please register your child/ family here.

Monday Prayer

On Monday at prayer before school we read the story of Carlo Acutis, who has just been canonised as a Saint. He is known as the Saint in Sneakers. This coming Monday 15 September we will be doing a prayer around Student Protection Week. All students and families are welcome to attend prayer. 

New Altar Servers

On the weekend we trained 3 new Altar Servers; Conor, Emmett and Lara. Altar serving is a ministry to our parish community. We are very proud of the children for taking on this commitment and we look forward to their service in our church.

Vinnies Sleepout Experience

On Thursday 41 students chose to stay after school and learn about homelessness. As part of the experience the children tried to create a budget for groceries, packed care packages, tried to balance life's necessities and what can fit into your bag. We also had Stephen from Vinnies Youth come and share some local knowledge of Townsville's homelessness. The children walked away from the experience feeling grateful for the many things they have! 

Thank you for the toiletry drive donations, Stephen expressed gratitude on behalf of those who will be receiving these in the near future.

Mater Miracles

As part of St Clare’s Day the children and staff got to choose between three charities to donate a dollar towards. One of the charities was the Mater Foundation. The total amount that we will be contributing to the Mater Foundation is $427. At last week’s assembly Alistair Baggott attended the assembly to speak to the school about how this will go towards the Mater Miracles! He was very appreciative of our generosity.

Carlo Acutis

Over the weekend a new saint was canonised - Carlo Acutis. He was only 15 when he passed away, but prior to that he lived a life of faith and righteousness.

Oh God, Our Father,

thank you for giving us Carlo, 

a life example for the young

and a message of love for everyone.

You made him become enamoured with 

Your Son Jesus, Making of the Eucharist 

his “Highway to Heaven”.

You gave him Mary, as a most loving Mother, 

and, with the Rosary, you made him 

a poet of her tenderness. Receive his prayer for us.

Above all, gaze upon the poor, 

whom he loved and helped.

Grant for me too, by his intercession, 

the grace that I need ...

And make our joy fulfilled,

placing Carlo among the Saints 

of your Church, so that his smile 

may shine again for us in the glory of your name.
